“Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end…” (Isa. 9:7a, NKJV).
Isaiah’s prophecy has become reality. God’s government is increasing. It’s getting bigger and bigger, mightier and mightier, ever more illustrious, ever more renowned. This began the moment that Jesus knocked all other powers off their thrones, through His death and resurrection. His rule is taking over the entire world. This is why Isaiah also specified, two chapters later, “For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Isa. 11:9, NKJV).
“Increase” is a word Holy Spirit wants us to become intimately familiar with. Increase is His both in His nature and in His will for us. He plans for absolutely everything good in our lives to increase. He is a God of growth and a God of expansion.
Unending increase characterizes His Kingdom. Unending increase also characterizes His peace. In other words, once He genuinely becomes the Lord of your life, He will progressively produce more and more of the fruit of His peace inside of you. In the beginning, you will start out with a measure of peace that corresponds to the measure of faith He gives you upon salvation (Rom. 12:3). As you actively use your faith, it steadily grows. Your peace deepens in direct relation to the strengthening of your faith.
Peace is not the only quality that will increase, the longer King Jesus rules in your heart. Peace is third in the list of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. As His government grows inside of you, His love will too. His joy will develop inside of you. His patience will go deeper in you. More and more, you will exemplify His kindness and His goodness. His faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will also blossom from within your spirit in ever-increasing measure.
He desires that the attractiveness of His nature be increasingly evident in our lives. He also wills that the demonstration of His power would be increasingly on display through us. He yearns for us to resemble Him both in the beauty of His character and in the manifestation of His power. “For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power” (1 Cor. 4:20, ESV). We cannot fully represent Him to this world if we do not walk in undeniable demonstrations of His power. His is Lamb and He is Lion.
Therefore, the increase of His government in our lives will also include the increase of signs and wonders. Just like He wants us to believe He will empower us to become more loving and less judgmental, He also wants us to believe that He will provide an ever-increasing measure of power to walk in the overtly supernatural aspects of His Kingdom.
“Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.” This principle is born out of His infinite nature. No matter how deep you go into God, forever and ever, throughout all of eternity, there will be more to taste, more to experience, more to know, more to learn. For this reason, walking with Him is a glorious adventure that never gets repetitive or uninteresting. No matter how much of His Kingdom has come inside of you, there is MORE!!!
Is the Holy Spirit stirring up your faith to believe for more in a specific area of your life? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
